Recovery coaching is a non-clinical peer support service that is person-centered and supports the recovery potential within every individual. Recovery coaches promote positive self-identity by drawing on the strengths and resilience of individuals. The primary role of a Riverbend recovery coach is to uphold the inherent value and potential of each and every recoveree so that they too can recognize and actualize the value and potential within themselves. The recovery journey becomes more achievable and sustainable when a recoveree’s inherent capacity to live a self-directed, meaningful life is recognized and supported.

The Connecticut Center For Recovery Training (CCAR) Recovery Coach Academy© is a 5-day intensive, interactive training program that prepares individuals to serve as personal guides and mentors for people in or seeking recovery from substance use disorders. Participants learn both the art and science of recovery coaching by focusing on active listening, asking open-ended questions, and treating individuals as their own best resources. The training covers core recovery principles, ethical issues, boundary management, cultural awareness, and the development of recovery wellness plans, and it is a fundamental requirement for obtaining a Certified Addictions Recovery Coach (CARC) designation.
