Riverbend is proud to announce its newest partnership with Lowell High School, providing substance use education group programming to the student body. This program will include multiple groups that focus both on education and diversion helping the students understand the short and long term impacts of substance use.
“We are thrilled to partner with Riverbend in providing addiction education and support to students, aiming to create a positive and lasting impact on their well-being,” said Sue Zielinski, Coordinator of Student Support.
Through this partnership, Riverbend will have a clinician on-site at Lowell High School facilitating these clinically structured support groups. The group will meet weekly for one hour and create a safe, supportive environment where the teens can share their experiences, concerns, and have open discussion around substance use disorder.
“Statistics show that early intervention and education in teens with signs of addiction lead to positive impacts on their mental health and quality of life as they enter adulthood,” said Shaun Bries, Director of Ambulatory Services at Riverbend. “That is why we are so excited about this opportunity to partner with Lowell High School and work with these students.”
The group will feature both educational components and interactive activities on a weekly basis. The educational components would include discussions on the risks associated with drug and alcohol use, coping strategies, the neuroscience of addiction, and the importance of mental health. Interactive activities, such as role-playing and group discussions, would encourage peer support and help participants develop critical thinking skills regarding substance use and its impact on their lives.
